Summed up in a few words...
Graeme Lee was an important part of Wednesday's promotion campaign of 2004/05, even though he would reluctantly point out he was injured for the big final with Hartlepool in Cardiff. But nevertheless Lee has been a rock in the Owls defence ever since Chris Turner brought him to Hillsborough from his former club Hartlepool in the summer of 2003.
His opening season with the Owls was a successful one, earning himself a regular place in the backline alongside his younger understudy Richard Wood, who would over the course of the next couple of seasons learn a great amount from the Geordie born player.
Paul Sturrock bolstered his defence in the summer of 2005 with the signings of Graham Coughlan, Drissa Diallo, Frankie Simek and later in the season Peter Gilbert. With Richard Wood and veteran Lee Bullen also on the wage bill it left little or no room for Lee to make his mark. Whilst not completely left out of the action of 2005/06 Sturrock felt that Lee would be surplus to requirements come the end of the season, and decided to let him go when the January transfer window opened.
A strong centre-back who is great in the air and a useful attacking option from corners Lee was a good servant for the club in his term that last just shy of three years. Lee has resumed his career back in League One with local side Doncaster Rovers. |
