Hills was Paul Sturrock's first summer signing after promotion to the Championship in the summer of 2005.
The former Gillingham man began his football in his hometown of Blackpool, before making a mouthwatering move to Everton. Hills played second fiddle to a former Owl in Andy Hinchcliffe during his time at Goodison Park and eventually moved back to Blackpool where he enjoyed a five year spell with the Seasiders, clocking up over 140 first team starts.
It was during this period that Hills learnt a lot of his trade under another former Wednesday man, Nigel Worthington. Hills moved onto Championship side Gillingham in the summer of 2003 where he spent two years and clocked up over 50 league and cup appearances.
He spent two years at Hillsborough and was a regular at the left-back spot under Sturrock's reign, but less popular when Brian Laws was manager. Instead, Laws opted for youngster Tommy Spurr.
Hills left the club at the end of the 2006/07 season, after having made just shy of 50 league and cup appearances for Wednesday, before re-signing for his hometown club Blackpool weeks later. |
