Graham was signed by Paul Sturrock in the opening month of the 2005/06 season for an undisclosed fee reported to be about £350,000 from Wigan Athletic. He scored twice in his first nine matches for the club, and that was about as good as it got.
The former Scottish Under 21 international was unable to hit the back of the net on a regular basis and Sturrock was forced to shop around for further strike power in the January transfer window. He brought in Deon Burton from Rotherham and Marcus Tudgay from Derby County.
The following season was an even more miserable one for the Scot who found himself behind Tudgay, Burton and Steve MacLean in the pecking order. Newly appointed manager Brian Laws spelt out his intentions by bringing a fifth striker to the club in Leon Clarke in January 2007.
Despite being shipped out on loan to various lower division clubs The Owls were unable to attract enough interest for a cash bid to recover some of their losses.
Graham's exclusion from the pre-season matches of 2007/08 was a big hint he would soon be on his way, and sure enough in August 2008 his contract was terminated by mutual consent. Only days later he joined Gillingham. |
