Summed up in a few words...
Madjid "Magic" Bougherra signed for the Owls in the summer of 2006 and just over six months later had left the club for almost ten times the fee Wednesday had shelled out for him. Whilst it was a rare piece of successful transfer business on Wednesday's behalf, they did lose one of their most talented players.
Bougherra quickly made the centre-back position his own but when the January transfer window opened it quickly became apparent the Owls would struggle to turn down a serious offer for him. Charlton came in first with a £1.3 million bid that was turned down. Charlton's approach left Owls boss Brian Laws furious that the club had not been contacted first.
Championship leaders Birmingham City and Premier League side Everton also showed an interest before Atticks boss Alan Pardew secured the player with a £2.5 million bid.
In his brief time as a Wednesday player Madjd showed he was strong in the air, creative with the ball at feet and a danger at the other end of the park. |
