There is an element of excitement around the signing of South African born Scottishman Burton O'Brien. The attacking midfielder was snapped up on a free transfer from Livingston and re-joins former team mate JP McGovern at Hillsborough. O'Brien has been widely tipped to be a big success for the Owls.
O'Brien made his footballing debut for St.Mirren in 1998 and after just 18 appearances was snapped up by Premier League side Blackburn Rovers. But at just 18 years of age the move turned out to be a little too much for O'Brien, whose three year spell at Ewood Park saw him make just one substitute appearance in the first team.
A move back north of the border saw O'Brien join Livingston, where he made 107 appearances scoring 16 times. He is described as a creative, attacking left-footed player and has been urged by Paul Sturrock to take his game to the next level and earn himself a place in the Scottish international side. |
