Gilbert is another of the old Plymouth Argyle crew from Paul Sturrock's days with the south coast club and after having been initially signed on a loan deal the Owls made the move permanent with the opening of the transfer window in January 2006.
The Welsh youth international was a regular in the Plymouth backline and having spent two seasons there he made a £200,000 move to the Walker Stadium. However, he made just four first team starts for the Foxes before his former boss Sturrock jumped in to lure him to Hillsborough.
Gilbert's time at Hillsborough has been hampered with injuries and the full back has been restricted to just 23 appearances before the 2007/08 season kicked off. During most of last season youngster Tommy Spurr made a name for himself in his absence and the two will battle for the left-back position this season. |
