Miscellaneous - Managers

Brian Laws:
November 2006 - Present
Brian Laws congratulates Chris Brunt on a fine goal in his opening month as Owls boss. Paul Sturrock lifts the League One Play-Off Trophy - ensuring the man you see here will go down in Wednesday's history books as the man who stopped the rot.

Paul Sturrock:
Sep 2004 - October 2006

Former Dundee United legend Paul Sturrock barks from the sideline.

Sturrock salutes the Wednesday fans after having secured a place in the 2005 League One Play-Off Final. Paul Sturrock - had huge success with Plymouth Argyle before a forgettable short spell at Southampton.

Chris Turner:
Nov 2002 - Sep 2004

Chris Turner claps the Hillsborough crowd - who appreciated having a man in charge who dearly loved the club he once played for.

A rare moment of celebration for Turner who couldn't stop the Owls dropping to England's third tier of football in 2003. Chris Turner was a former Wednesday keeper from the late 80s/early 90s. Wore the number one jersey in the famous 1991 League Cup win over Manchester United.

Turner was previously a huge success with Hartlepool United having helped them be promoted out of the old fourth division.

Terry Yorath:
Oct 2001 - Oct 2002

Terry Yorath - the man with the Golden Mullet. Was in charge for just 12 months before bowing to the pressure of the expectations to deliver the Owls back into the big time. Yorath was Wednesday's fourth manager in two years. Welshman Yorath (right) and his appointed Assistant Manager Wil Donachie

Peter Shreeves:
Feb 2001 - Oct 2001
Mar 2000 - Jun 2000
(as caretaker manager)
Shreeves celebrates his Manager of the Month award for March 2000.   Paul Jewell:
Jun 2000 - Feb 2001

Paul Jewell - Never really given a fair crack at the job, and eventually went to to better things elsewhere. Danny Wilson:
July 1998 - Mar 2000
Danny Wilson - a former Owls player who went on to then manager the club for some two years. Wilson collected the first Manager of the Month Award for the year 2000, back in the days of Premier League football.

Wilson motivates his players from the sideline. Former Owls striker Gilles de Bilde celebrates with his manager. Wilson can only watch on in horror as the Owls are embarrassed 8-0 at St James Park against Newcastle United in September 1999.
That season the Owls were to be relegated.
Wilson - a former Northern Ireland international and midfield battler in his day.

Ron Atkinson:
Nov 1997 - May 1998
Feb 1989 - Jun 1991
Two spells as Wednesday manager for the man affectionately known as "Big Ron". The man who steered us to League Cup victory as underdogs in 1991, and to promotion in the same season. In his second spell Ron saved the club from relegation, but was not handed an extended deal in the summer.
David Pleat:
Jun 1995 - Nov 1997
Pleat was Hillsborough boss for nearly two and a half years, but never accomplished much as manager.
Wednesday's slow decline post-Atkinson and Francis began.
Will probably also be remembered as the man who sold our Hillsborough favourite David Hirst to Southampton.
Trevor Francis:
Jun 1991 - May 1995
Francis became Player/Manager after Ron Atkinson's sudden departure in 1991 to Aston Villa.
Continueing on from Ron's well assembled squad, "Tricky Trev" took the Owls to 3rd in the old Division One and into Europe the following season.
Two Domestic Cup final defeats in 1993, followed by the slow but inevitable dispersing of "Golden Era" of the early 90s Francis was eventually chopped in May 1995.
