@roquey44 well said about this song my friend. This is my Dad’s fav song of all time I suspect and it always reminds me of him. Its big of you to see beyond the appalling behaviour that went on in Dixie all those years ago against black people. Those people are a scar on the history of humanity and they bring shame on me and all white people for their dispicable acts. All the best

Elvis did not write this song. Yes he did a great job on it and made it more famous; but please people listen to Mickey Newbury. He is one of the greatest singer/songwriters of all time. He’s the mind behind countless hits and credit needs to be given where its due.

Your performances are so passionate, and my heritage and feelings about beautiful people, in the “performing industry,” is, well, sensitive. I take society’s opinions and consensus, very personally. Grow up?
“Oh I wish I was in the land of cotton. . .” No black man is supposed to like a song with that line in it ’cause is speaks of a place that historically oppressed the black man. Having a black man sing “Dixie’ is akin to having a Klansman rap some Snoop Dog. But the song isn’t about Southern Pride. It’s about a man in a nasty war wishing he could see his family one last time.
