Owls 100% win rate continues
Stockport 0-1 Wednesday - by Al Frith
A 1-0 win over First Division Stockport County has maintained Wednesday's perfect pre-season record, with it being the fourth consecutive win.
It was a fairly weakened Owls side with no Jonk, Sibon, O'Donnell, Scott, Sonner, Rudi or Carbone.
Wednesday controlled the game well and the one-goal scoreline didn't reflect how the game was played. In the 19th minute the Owls almost opened the scoring, when the already impressive Gilles de Bilde set up Alexandersson, who's volley brought out a cracking save from the County keeper.
It didn't matter though, as the goal did come just five minutes later. This time it was Richard Cresswell who set up Gilles de Bilde, who's header crashed off the bar and supplied an easy chance for Simon Donnelly to score his second goal during this pre-season programme.
Half-time: Stockport 0-1 Owls
The goalscoring chances continued to come, but the Owls just couldn't add to their lead. Indeed, the second half was somewhat boring as Wednesday coasted.
It almost worked against them, when in the dying moments of the game Pressman pulled of a couple of great saves to help the Owls hold onto the win. It was a further stake by Pressman for his place in the first team, following his penalty save in the 2-1 win over West Brom.
