Owls rot continues - Wilson's job unsecure

report from official swfc site

All in all it wasn't a bad performance but that will be of no consolation to Wednesday fans as the Owls slipped to another disappointing Premiership defeat.

Danny Wilson's men have now lost all four of their Premiership home games this season as Everton struck with two early sucker punches to leave Wednesday rooted to the bottom of the Premiership.

Much of the talk before and after the game was the ongoing saga involving transfer listed Italian, Beni Carbone. The striker started on the bench for the game and although he came on as a late sub even his mercurial skills failed to alter the course of a game which had been taken out of Wednesday hands with the two goals in the space of three minutes.

David Unsworth's high 15th minute ball to the edge of the area was knocked down by Kevin Campbell, with Francis Jeffers the intended target from Campbell's header having slipped, it was left to Nick Barmby to rifle home a 20-yard drive beyond Kevin Pressman.

The visitors then went 2-0 up three minutes later as Mitch Ward and Jeffers beautifully worked the overlap down the right wing. The latter's cross was missed by Barmby but was met at the far post by Scot Gemmill for his first this campaign.

Half-time Owls 0-2 Everton

Wednesday's heads refused to go down with Gilles De Bilde again looked inventive while he was on with two turn and shots in the first half both saved by keeper Gerrard while Andy Booth should have at least hit the target with a free header in the second half.

Everton also had the opportunities to make the scoreline a more flattering one with teenage star Jeffers and then Campbell both bringing the best out of Pressman. However despite some pressure in the second half Wednesday could not find the breakthrough.
