Match Report

Dons end Owls good run

Wimbledon boss Joe Kinnear was rushed to hospital just 30 minutes before kick-off suffering from a heart-attack. This seemed to spur on the Dons as they came out on top in this encounter - leaving Wednesday bitterly dissapointed knowing they would've shot up to 8th in the league with a win here.

Andy Booth came close to making it four goals in three games for him with a header that went just wide. Three minutes later and Wimbledon were infront - a threw ball split the Owls defence in two and Ekoku's volley crashed off the underside of the crossbar and past Srnicek into the net.

Incidentally the Czech keeper returned from suspension and went straight into the team at the expense of Kevin Pressman who then announced before the game his wishes to leave the club.

Wednesday were putting some good moves together but just couldn't find the net - they were punished on 31 minutes when Gayle had a shot deflected in to make it 2-0.

Half-time: Owls 0-2 Wimbledon

The second half was scrappy - the Owls desperate to get something out of the game and Wimbledon packing the defence, often with 10 men behind the ball.

On 63 minutes Wednesday finally got one back. Andy Hinchcliffe swung in a free-kick and Thome clumsily headed in for his second goal for the club.

Danny Wilson must've thought it was 2-2 when Andy Booth headed powerfully goalwards but somehow Dons keeper Sullivan to scramble it away to keep Wimbledon's lead in tact. Jason Euell almost ensured the three points when his header shaved the bar. It didn't matter in the end though, the Dons held on for the win and kept Wednesday in 11th spot in the table.
