Owls end Hillsborough league hoodoo
A comfortable 3-1 win over Bryon Robson's Middlesrough was Wednesday's third successive league win but amazingly the first time the Owls had scored a league goal at home since the 3-0 win over Charlton on 12 December 1998.
The early signs were good for Wednesday when after only 70 seconds Beni Carbone shot just wide and moments later Andy Booth's header flicked the crossbar from Rudi's cross.
The Owls did score though in the 11th minute when Andy Hinchcliffe's low, hard left-hand cross was tucked in between defender and keeper by Booth.
After the opening goal Wednesday slacked off a bit and Boro missed their opportunity to get right back into the match. Owls captain Peter Atherton messed up a header back to Pressman and it let in Danish striker Mikkel Beck who was one-on-one with the Owls keeper but missed the target from 12 yards to Wednesday's relief.
Half-time: Owls 1-0 Middlesbrough
Shortly after the break Boro had more chances to equalise, including a Hamilton Ricard header that rebounded off the bar. Despite riding their luck, it was 2-0 to Wednesday in the 77th minute whem Dutchman Wim Jonk picked out Sonner whose powerful header from the back post sailed past Schwarzer and into the net.
Only a minute later Boro pulled one back - Mustoe caught the Owls backline napping and he managed to slip the ball underneath Pressman to ensure an interesting final ten minutes or so.
The goal scoring blitz continued two minutes later when Booth got his second of the game with another header, and once again that man Hinchcliffe the provider. With five minutes remaining Andy Booth had a golden chance to seize his hat-trick when his point blank range effort was saved.
The only dissapointment for Danny Wilson would've been Carbone's eighth booking of the season which now means he'll be suspended for the Yorkshire derby in a few weeks time.
