Boxing Day revenge for Wednesday
The Owls hit back from a 1-0 defeat last week (v Derby County) with a convincing 2-0 win over Leicester City, who haven't won in the league since beating Wednesday back on Boxing Day when Tony Cottee scored the only goal of the game.
There were no changes to the Wednesday team with Andy Booth keeping Ritchie Humphreys on the subs bench, as did Danny Sonner with Dejan Stefanovic.
Leicester started the brighter of the two sides and almost opened the scoring on 21 minutes when Muzzy Izzet round Srnicek before Andy Hinchcliffe cleared off the line. Beni Carbone was, not for the first time in recent weeks, causing the Leicester defence all sorts of problems and he tested Kasey Keller well with a header from Petter Rudi's cross.
Booth also had a good chance to score right on half-time but didn't manage to convert his chance.
Half-time: Leicester 0-0 Owls
Just three minutes into the second half and Leicester keeper Kasey Keller made a terrible mistake to gift Wednesday a lead. Booth's shot had no real power in it but the American made a meal of it and pushed it straight to Dutchman Wim Jonk who headed home his second of the season.
Leicester tried desperatly to pull one back but the Owls backline looked unbreakable once again with Thome and Walker doing an outstanding job. Wednesday had further chance to score with opportunites falling to Alexandersson, Jonk and Booth missing when perhaps he should've scored.
The game was done and dusted though on 78 minutes when Alexandersson's pass was cleverly dummied by Jonk and Carbone fired home his 7th goal of the season.
