For the second season in a row, Wednesday have crashed out in the 2nd Round of the League Cup. Last season
(Coca Cola Cup) it was Grimsby, this season (Worthington Cup) it's Cambridge Utd.
Wednesday went to Abbey Stadium knowing it was an uphill task after the disaster 1-0 loss in the 1st leg at home.
The Owls had very few chances in the first half and Cambridge looked well on the way to a big upset win.
DiCanio managed a shot on goal but was straight at the 'keeper. The Italian also put over a cross for
Booth who couldn't quite reach the cross. The other Italian Carbone limped off injured just before half-time and was replaced by Swede
Alexandersson, making his first appearance after being injured for 6 months.
On 69 mins Wednesday scored, but in a rather strange way when a long clearance by Pressman was back headed into his own net by Cambridge
defender Campbell to make it 1-0 to Wednesday and 1-1 on aggregate. Cambridge fans didn't have to wait
long to see the goal which would seal the win when Benjamin scored again against the Owls with 15 mins left.
Wednesday tried desperately to find another opening but couldn't.
This major upset will be a huge downer for the morale in the squad and Danny Wilson will have to get the players ready for
the stern visit of champions Arsenal on Saturday.
