Experienced Owls in Four-midable form

An experienced Owls Reserve side hit four goals and totally outclassed a second string Scunthorpe United outfit.

A team that boasted just four youngsters in the starting XI wasted no time in putting the visitor's defence to the sword with a Kenny Lunt free-kick in the second minute that found the back of the net. Flying Dutchman Etienne Esajas, forced out of the side at the moment by Burton O'Brien, staged his case for a re-call with Wednesday's second goal on the half hour. The winger charged down the left flank before cutting inside and finishing low.

The Irons gave themselves hope five minutes before the break when Joel Barnett headed past Rob Burch from a corner, but The Owls continued their domination in the second half.

The game should have been finished off well before Charlie Tunnard's strike in the 80th minute. Yoann Folly was the maker of the goal setting up for the 16 year old to score in front of The Kop, albeit completely empty.
Esajas was again the creator five minutes later as he set up for Rocky Lekaj to finish and ensure the Reserves returned to winning ways after defeat in their last outing ended a run of four wins on the trot.

Coach Sean McAuley later praised the academy representatives Tunnard and Lekaj for making it onto the scoresheet, but it was also the likes of Esajas who, with a goal and two assists, will have given Brian Laws food for thought for his team selections.

McAuley verdict:

"It's good to see any side of ours score goals and I was really pleased for Charlie and Rocky. Charlie is a first-year apprentice, only 16-years-old, and to score at Hillsborough in front of the Kop - even though there was no one there - was really good for him."

"It's confidence building for the younger lads and for the more experienced players, it's another game under the belt to push themselves forward into contention for the first team."
