Wise Owls thrash Mariners

An experienced Wednesday Reserve side thrashed Grimsby 5-1 at Blundell Park, making it three wins from three for the second string side.

New Dutch winger Etienne Esajas grabbed the headlines with a brace of goals as he got another 90 minutes of football under his belt. On the other flank Wade Small played for an hour and chipped in with Wednesday's second goal of the evening, coming just after half-time.

Francis Jeffers and Akpo Sodje also got a 45 minute run out. Jeffers' start to the season has been hampered with niggling injuries but the former Everton and Arsenal man will be hoping he can impress this weekend when The Owls travel to Preston North End.

Youngsters Jason Bradley and Luke Boden grabbed second half goals while the home side's solitary strike was merely a consolation effort.
