Winning start for Wednesday

Wednesday won their opening reserve fixture of the season with a 1-0 win at Darlington thanks to a first half strike by youngster Matt Bowman. Sean McAuley's side was a mixture of youth team players and senior players that included the likes of Robert Burch, Peter Gilbert, Richard Hinds, Yoann Folly and Burton O'Brien.

McAuley verdict:

"It was a good test for all the players. We started really well which was pleasing after a long trip to Darlington."

"We came out of the traps and got in front. We had a corner and our movement was good, the ball landed to Matt in the six-yard box and he stuck it away."
