the report

Heerenveen level late on in ten men friendly

Wednesday conceded an injury time equaliser to Dutch side Heerenveen, parading former Owl Gerald Sibon in their line-up, after having held a 2-0 lead through goals from Chris Brunt and Wade Small.

Kenny Lunt was fouled in the box just five minutes into the encounter as Chris Brunt calmly struck the resulting spot kick for his second goal in three pre-season games. Both sides had chances to score throughout the remainder of the half, including an effort from the home side that came back off the crossbar, but it was the event that occured moments before the half-time whistle that was the game's talking point.

Deon Burton found himself in trouble with referee Bossen after commenting on a decision that had gone against the Owls. The referee summonded Burton, who stood his ground, before flashing a red card to the amazement of everyone in the ground.

An agreement between the two teams saw the second half played with ten men a piece and the game's tempo took a turn for the worse.

However, it was Wednesday who scored next as Wade Small continued his impressive early season form by heading in a Frank Simek cross from the right for 2-0.

Lasse Nilsson pulled one back for the hosts with little over quarter of an hour to be played, and it was Nilsson too who completed the comeback late on. The Dutch forward raced clean through on goal and beat Lee Grant in the Wednesday goal.

The Owls now have a two day break before completing their Dutch tour with a fixture against FC Gronigen on Saturday.
