Wednesday in wonderland at the Walkers

The Owls secured a famous win at the Walkers Stadium to massively boost their hopes of playing Championship football next season. Defeat at fellow strugglers Blackpool last weekend had plumeted Wednesday into deep trouble of facing a return to League One football for the second time in three seasons, but Brian Laws' side responded in superb fashion to take control of their own destiny in the fight for survival.

Laws had suffered further injury problems in midweek with the news that Burton O'Brien would sit out the rest of the season, while veterans Steve Watson and Lee Bullen played despite still recovering from injuries. The Owls boss started with a 4-4-2 formation but just minutes into the game deployed a 4-2-1-3 formation to confuse Leicester and attack from the wings.

The early signs weren't good as the home side, in front of the division's highest attendance of the season of just under 32,000, took an 8th minute lead. A defensive mix up between Lee Grant and Bullen let in Iain Hume to open the scoring and pile the pressure on Wednesday.

Laws verdict:

"The first thing I said to the players was 'don't think we have done it, that's half the job'."

"We are not taking our eye off the ball at any stage. We trained all week on how we were going to play and now we have to prepare them again for another massive game against Norwich."

"If anybody tells me football is not stressful I think I will have to knock them out. What a game!"
