Wednesday's woodwork woes

Wednesday's sluggish start to the new season continued at newly promoted Southend United as the Owls were held to a 0-0 stalemate. Glenn Whelan twice hit the woodwork and Burton O'Brien also went close. Chris Brunt could've won the game late on but in the end both sides had to settle for a point.

Sturrock verdict:

"I was disappointed but our confidence has been eroded. We have hit the woodwork so many times it is unbelievable. We could have got a penalty but I'm not going to whinge because not many teams are going to come here and win."

"Winning at home is the problem. We have a lot of injury problems - I don't need big money, I want my squad fit."
