Centre-backs give Owls winning start

The Owls reserves made a winning start to the season despite putting out a side almost entirely made up on Academy players. Only Chris Adamson, Wade Small and Sean McAllister made up players in the senior squad but a brace from centre-back pairing Liam McMenamin and Sam Liversidge helped the Owls to a 2-1 win over Stoke in the opening Pontins Reserve League match.

The visitors boasted Senegal captain Aloui Cisse, on trial with the Potters, in their side along with experienced pro's John Eustace and Kevin Harper. Former MK Dons winger Wade Small was pulled off with quarter of an hour to go as he is likely to be used in this weekend's trip to Plymouth. Manager Paul Sturrock has nine senior players missing through injury or suspension and needs every able body he can get his hands on.
