Tudgay finds top form to fire Owls to three points

Steven MacLean came off the bench to help fire managerless Wednesday to three points over London based Queens Park Rangers, despite sqwandering a two goal lead earlier in the game. The Owls, lead by Caretaker Manager Sean McAuley, Wednesday's Youth Team coach, made it two wins at home on the trot and bounced back from a disastrous drubbing at Colchester in midweek. Marcus Tudgay found his shooting boots for the first time this season with two first half strikes.

McAuley had given his side almost a free will to play open football and the lease of life paid dividends early on as Marcus Tudgay shot Wednesday into an early 1-0 lead after 13 minutes. Strike partner Deon Burton put Tudgay through on goal and the former Derby man steered his shot past Paul Jones in the Rangers goal. It was Tudgay's first goal in this his seventh showing of the season.

The Owls had threatened a second goal for the remainder of the half but they had to wait until first half stoppage time to get it. It was no surprise that it was Tudgay who sent the Owls in two ahead at the break, he had looked hungry for goals since his opener. John Hills' deep cross found an unmarked Tudgay at the backpost whose downward header found its way past Jones for a second time.

Wednesday fans have been subject to dramas a plenty in recent weeks and so it was probably no surprise that Rangers cancelled out Wednesday's lead with two goals in just four minutes. Both times Dextor Blackstock was the scorer, both times Lee Cook the provider.

With the impotus now genuinly in QPR's favour there was the real fear Wednesday would go on to win this one. But there was still some fight left in Wednesday and they regained the lead with twenty minutes left on the clock. Sub MacLean found himself through on goal and rounded Jones before being felled by the Rangers shot stopper. MacLean hauled himself up to convert the spot kick and ultimately secure three more valuable points for the Owls. It was the first Wednesday have scored more than twice in a match this season.
