Match Report

Rhinos beaten by MacLean brace

A brace by Steven MacLean saw the Owls end their US Pre-season tour with a 2-0 win over the Rochester Rhinos. The Scottish forward bagged goals in the 10th minute and his second with 14 minutes left on the clock to ensure Paul Sturrock's side finished the three game tour undefeated.

Sturrock experimented with his formations starting this game with an unfamiliar 3-1-4-2 with a back three of Simek, Coughlan and Spurr with Madjid Bougherra sitting just infront of them and just behind the midfield. In the second half Sturrock reverted back to the traditional 4-4-2 with Bougherra dropping to centre-back with Coughlan, and Simek switching to right-back.

Good work by Bougherra set up MacLean for his first inside the first quarter of an hour. MacLean steadied himself before driving the ball into the roof of the net. The Owls dominated the first half and Chris Adamson had only one serious save to make. MacLean's second came from left-wing cross by youngster Tommy Spurr.

The Owls now return to England where they face Mansfield Town away next up.

Half-time: Rochester 0-0 Owls

AnzOwls' verdict: Great to see MacLean getting amongst the goals.
