Tudders the Guy for Wednesday

Marcus Tudgay took his tally to five goals in his last four outings to help fire the Owls to a 2-1 win over Leicester and extended Sean McAuley's remarkable run as Caretaker manager. Leicester, who arrived at Hillsborough on an eight match unbeaten run, came back into the game late on thanks to a goal by Matty Fryatt but there was no stopping Wednesday who have now won three out of their last four league games. The confidence running through the team had deserted previous boss Paul Sturrock who saw his side win just one in ten at the start of the campaign.

Tudgay put the Owls ahead on 34 minutes after Deon Burton had cleverly chested the ball into his path, the former Derby County striker smashed the ball past Conrad Logan in the Foxes goal.

It was 2-0 ten minutes into the second period. It was put on a plate for him again by his strike partner Burton who after running free down the left slid the ball across goal for Tudgay to sweep home at the far post.

Fryatt's goal that brought Leicester back into the game with 18 minutes left was slightly bizarre as Brad Jones appeared to have stopped the shot before watching in horror as it went over the goal line. They might've equalised in similar fashion, too, when Lee Bullen's attempted clearance came off Fryatt and over the top.

The Owls held on for four long minutes of injury time in what is likely to be McAuley's final game in temporary charge of the Owls.

McAuley verdict:

"The performances come from the confidence of getting a good result. We're up to 16th, and the players are brimming at the minute. "

"If they focus on the next game you never know what might come round for them."

"Credit to Leicester because they did throw everything at us and they went for broke - but we handled it well."
