Dragons demolish sorry Owls

Paul Sturrock will want to forget about this result, and quick. His Owls side were taken to the cleaners by a Wrexham outfit two divisions below. Owls Chairman Dave Allen had instructed Sturrock he saw a good cup run as important for financial reasons, but Sturrock's side were booted out of the Carling Cup at the first hurdle as the Dragons romped to an impressive 4-1 win.

Wednesday sorely missed their inspirational skipper Graham Coughlan in the heart of their defence, replaced by Lee Bullen, returning from his three game ban, but were also without loan keeper Brad Jones and midfielder Burton O'Brien, the hero in a 2-1 league win at Plymouth last Saturday.
