Winning is the new Law for Wednesday

New Owls manager Brian Laws kicked off his Wednesday career in the perfect fashion after a 2-0 win at Portman Road.

The Owls, with debutant Mark Crossley in goal, took an early 11th minute lead when man of the moment Marcus Tudgay got on the end of a Wade Small cross to convert his sixth goal in five games for the club. Alan Lee and Matthew Richards missed good chances for the home side, bossed by former Wednesday midfielder Jim Magilton, and Wednesday's win was complete with eight minutes left. Madjid Bougherra planted a firm header pass Supple from a Kenny Lunt cross for his first goal in Wednesday colours.

The win was remarkably Wednesday's third on the trot and extended their unbeaten run to five matches. More importantly for Brian Laws, it was three points at first time asking.

Laws verdict:

"Any manager will tell you when he takes over at a club his first points in the bag are the most important."

"We allowed Ipswich some good chances then we rode our luck and in the second half we limited them to half chances."

"The second goal was always going to be key and it was a magnificent set-play."
