Derby leave it late, again

For the second time this season Derby County hit the Owls with a killer blow in injury time to steal all three points. Back in September ten-man County bagged a 2-1 win at Hillsborough thanks to a last gasp goal by Steve Howard. This time they had David Jones to thank for securing an important league win.

Jones' free-kick late in the game came about after a needless challenge by Owls full back Tommy Spurr, although he can hardly be blamed for the defeat.

Derby had the bulk of the game's best scoring opportunities with Arturo Lupoli having an effort cleared off the line and Howard, a former Wednesday target, having a hat-trick of chances in front of goal. Chris Brunt's 25 yard drive that went narrowly wide was the pick of the bunch for the afternoon.

Laws verdict:

"It was a rash challenge from Tommy. He's young, he's naive, he's tried to win the ball."

"Any football played was played by Sheffield Wednesday. It was just the last pass in the final third that let us down. Apart from that, we were excellent."
