Leon & Deon duo win it for Wednesday

Leon Clarke returned to action in Owls colours and after a loan spell at Oldham with his first goal for the club as the Owls extended their unbeaten run to eight matches with a win at Ninian Park. Clarke had failed to impress in five substitute appearances after his transfer from Wolves in January, but found the scoring touch when Brian Laws shipped him off to Boundary Park to improve his sharpness for a month.

This was Clarke's first start for the Owls and his goal after 39 minutes, a header from a Deon Burton cross, came as a relief for the youngster as a number of wasted early chances in front of goal signalled his return to poor for for Wednesday.

Wednesday's lead didn't last them until half-time though. Bluebirds' defender Johnson headed home the equaliser to make it all square at the break.

Burton restored Wednesday's lead in the 67th minute. His initial effort was saved by David Forde in the Cardiff goal but the Owls striker tucked away the rebound for his tenth strike of the season. It is the first time since the promotion season of 1990/91 that four players have reached double figures in a season.

Laws verdict: "It is highly unlikely but while it is mathematically possible we will have a go at it." "Our away record is phenomenal and if we can match it at home you never know." "Nobody has switched off and nobody is on holiday. At this stage, sometimes players tend to dip in form, but our players have stepped up their game."
