Owls youngsters pick up a point

With a small injury crisis in the first team rearing it's ugly head Owls reserves coach Mark Smith was forced to field an entire team of Academy youngsters in the Reserves league match at Barnsley. Wednesday took a first half lead through striker Danny Reet, but the home side salvaged a point with a second half equaliser.

It was Reet's second goal in as many games for the second string side, who won their opening fixture of the season at home to Walsall.

Half-time: Barnsley 0-1 Owls

Mark Smith's post match comments:
"It was a good performance in which we played some good stuff. On reflection we probably did enough to win it. Danny took his goal well, controlling it and finishing well. They had a free kick which we failed to clear out of the area as we should have, they got a flick on and made it 1-1. We had other chances but weren't clinical enough in the area."

"The kids were asked to play because of the situation with the first team and players were playing out of position. We had a 15-year-old on the right hand side and a couple of lads who have only been with us for a couple of weeks so all in all, we have to be pleased."
