Owls continue winning ways
The Owls continued their 100% winning record in pre-season with a 2-1 win at League Two side Grimsby Town. A strong Wednesday team took 56 minutes to finally crack the Town defence when Steven MacLean's lob beat Brown in the Grimsby goal. Adam Proudlock virtually guaranteed the victory with only nine minutes left after he had anticipated a header back to the keeper and snuck in to poke the ball home.
An injury time strike by Town substitute Nick Hegarty was too little too late for the Mariners though.
Half-time: Grimsby 0-0 Owls
Paul Sturrock's side grabbed two in two minutes to kill the game off as a contest when a Steven MacLean penalty in the 58th minute and a second for Lee Peacock just after took the score to 5-1. MacLean grabbed his second after 84 minutes and the scoring was complete four minutes from time when Chris Brunt, who had opened the scoring, sent in a bullet header into the back of the net for 7-1.
Sturrock remained philosophical after the game stating that fitness was the aim of the game at this stage of the pre-season campaign. Another Owls XI will take on Stocksbridge Park Steels in two days time.
AnzOwls' verdict: A low key win for Wednesday, but a win's a win.
