Owls undone by late Pilgrims penalty
Match Report
Half-time: Plymouth 0-1 Owls
Paul Sturrock's post match comments:
"This is a difficult place to come and we've got a lot of young players. It was a
tussle but they stuck their foot in and their head in and worked very hard. If
there's a criticism of our players it's that they lack shape but today one or
two of them showed they can play with shape as well."
"I'm very pleased we've come away with a result. A lot of teams will come here and lose. If Mickey Evans is hot you have real problems here and he was a real handful today. They play a certain way which means you lose your rhythm, with long throws and set pieces into your box, and we never got into our stride."
"I'd like to discuss the referee but I can't so I won't. He was right on the spot for the penalty. He thought it was, our boys didn't and I'm led to believe some of their players didn't think it was a penalty either. That's football. I'm looking forward to having him at home. We're on a run - two games undefeated. As we keep saying, if you get a point away and win your home games you're going to stay in this league. It wasn't a classic or one for the purists but we'll take the point and get up the road."
Graham Coughlan's post match comments:
"I was a bit disappointed with my own performance. I don't feel I did myself justice. Maybe the whole occasion got to me. I felt I was off the pace of the game. I'm disappointed with the result after leading for so long. I'm very, very disappointed with the referee. I felt the penalty decision was very controversial. I want to see it again on the telly - I thought the player stood on the ball. I believe both teams wanted to win the game today and the referee wanted a draw - he's got that."
"The boys made a nice gesture towards me today and I appreciated that. But it's something I'm not interested in and the manager knows that. We've had many a chat about it - he still hasn't changed my mind and I don't think he will either. I was captain at Livingston for two years and I wasn't comfortable with it. I'll always give 100 per cent."
Tony Pulis' ((Plymouth manager) post match comments:
"I am disappointed not to have won. We want to win our home games. It was a difficult game. We are fighting and scrapping and they are fighting and scrapping so it was never going to be a pretty game but we are disappointed we didn't win it.
There are lots of things we are going have to improve on but the one thing you can't fault the players for is their commitment at the moment."
