Easter Surprise for Owls

The Owls took a mighty step towards Championship safety on Saturday when they beat Norwich 1-0 at Hillsborough in the first of their two Easter fixtures. Wednesday's win was coupled with draws elsewhere by Millwall and Crewe and a win for Brighton.

Paul Sturrock's side now have a seven point lead over Brighton and Crewe and in fact travel to Brighton on Monday in a game which could decide either side's fate for the season. Millwall's draw at home to Plymouth has effectively killed any slim chance they had of staying up.

Sturrock made three changes to the side that went down to Crewe last weekend with Lee Bullen, Steve Adams and Chris Brunt replacing Patrick Collins, Glenn Whelan and JP McGovern respectively. There was a healthy crowd of 30,000 plus with the popular "Kids for a Quid" programme aimed at getting more bums in seats. There was also a minute's silence before the game in memory of the 96 fans who died in the Hillsborough disaster on this day 17 years ago.

Full report soon.

Half-time: Owls 1-0 Norwich

Paul Sturrock's post match comments:
"This is Sheffield Wednesday we're talking about. When we've staggered over the finish line, I'll be a happy bunny but until then it's important that we focus. They battled today, they rolled their sleeves up and got in their faces and won their headers and 50-50s. When you do that you've always got a chance."

Nigel Worthington (Norwich manager & ex-Owl) post match comments:
"We created chances, we made tackles and there's a lot of plusses. We've had two centre-halves getting tangled up for the goal and we've paid the price for it. We were good value and a draw would have been fair."
