Reserves start with a loss
This report from the Official SWFC website:
Wednesday went down to a narrow defeat in their opening reserve
game as Gary Jones' strike earned Tranmere the points. Jones converted
Paul Robinson's cross midway through the first half to send the
Owls home empty-handed. With little to separate the sides, SWFC
created enough chances to have snatched a draw while Ola Tidman
pulled off some smart stops to thwart the hosts.
The Owls threw men forward in the late stages in a bid to secure
a point but their efforts came to nothing as Tranmere held on for
the win.
Half-time: Tranmere 0-0 Owls
Colin West's post match comments:
"It was a disappointing result, you always want to try and
get off to a good start. But if you look back at last season, we
won our first four games but only just managed to stay in this league,
so I'm hoping it will be a different season."
" We started brightly and should have scored in the first two
or three minutes. 'Sungu' had a great attempt and their keeper came
out and blocked his shot. We did quite well early on and there wasn't
much between the two teams."
"We had players who you would like to think are desperate to get
on the bench if they're not in the team. But for me, it didn't look
like that with a certain number of players, which is disappointing."
