Match Report

Double Hamshaw strike enough for victory

Matthew Hamshaw staked his claim for a first team place with a brace that helped the reserves to three more league points in a 2-1 win over Hartlepool United. Hamshaw opened the scoring four minutes into the second half with a bursting run into the opposition penalty box and calm finish.

With a quarter of an hour left the locally born player made it 2-0 with an angled drive from the edge of the box. Jack Ross's 87th minute goal gave Pool a glimmer of hope, but it was too little too late.

Half-time: Owls 0-0 Hartlepool

Mike Rigg's post match comments:
"It was a good result. There is a winning habit that the players are getting into now and over the last three or four games there's been an excellent attitude there. We limited them to a few chances but it is disappointing to go 75 minutes playing well, then finish off with poor standards. It could have turned a bit - they pulled a goal back and had one or two scrappy chances towards the end."

"We're very pleased with Matt Hamshaw. He's not only coming back to full fitness but to form as well. Both his goals were-taken, he showed good composure and his all-round game seems to be coming back to the form of a few years ago."
