Owls XI held at Alfreton
A second string Wednesday line-up was held 1-1 at the Impact Arena
against non-league outfit Alfreton Town. Notable inclusions in the
line-up were young midfielder Lewis McMahon, rested towards the
end of the game, striker Guylain Ndumbu-Nsungu and out of favour
midfielders Paul Smith and Craig Armstrong.
The match was a good opportunity for some of Wednesday's Academy
players to show Assistant Manager Colin West what they were capable
of. Young striker Andrew Talbot did just that in the 9th minute
when he gave the Owls the lead.
Rob Poulter's 65th minute error was punished as home side's Mick
Godber pounced to level the scores.
West was left satisfied with the effort put in by the players, even
if the result wasn't as favourable.
Half-time: Alfreton
0-1 Owls
Colin West's post match comments...
"It wasn't a great performance but we were resilient. It
was a battle when the game turned more physical in the second half
as we had only three players with first team experience. It was
a good ball into the box from Lewis McMahon which Andrew Talbot
headed in for the goal. We were quite comfortable in the first half
when they had no real shots on target."
"Alfreton changed their formation at half-time and bombarded
us with balls into the box as we did with them in the first 20 minutes.
I was disappointed with their equalising goal which put their tails
up and Rob Poulter had to make two good saves afterwards, before
the game petered out a bit."
