Not so posh performance, but the Owls take the cake The Owls came from behind to beat struggling Peterborough United in midweek to jump back to fourth spot in the league, and boost their hopes of promotion. The visitors had taken the lead in the 21st minute when Wednesday keeper David Lucas made a howler of a keeping error from a Peterborough corner when he spilt what appeared to be a standard gather. The Owls defence made a complete hash of trying to clear the ball and Posh striker Wayne Purser was on hand to bundle the ball into the back of the net. Ten minutes before the break the Owls were level. Paul Heckingbottom's long throw in made it's way to Steven MacLean who was held back by defender Craig Ireland. The referee pointed to the spot and MacLean tucked away the spot-kick with ease, for his 19th goal of the season. Shortly after half-time Wednesday found themselves ahead 2-1. A free-kick from the left wing found the towering presence of Graeme Lee, whose header in turn found Heckingbottom. The left-back's headed effort should've been dealt with but the game saw it's second decisive goalkeeping error as Posh shotstopper Mark Tyler fumbled the ball into the net. The win restored Wednesday's place in fourth position but fifth placed Hartlepool remain in the driving seat with games in hand. The Owls have a six point buffer between themselves and seventh placed Swindon Town, who lie just outside of the play-off zone. Half-time: Owls 1-1 Peterborough Paul Sturrock's post match comments: AnzOwls' verdict: It might not have been pretty. But the
Owls proved their worth in coming from behind on a dodgy Hillsborough
pitch in less than ideal conditions.
