Owls end Hatters 100% record

The Owls ended Luton Town's 100% record in the Coca-Cola League One with a 0-0 draw at Hillsborough on Saturday. Wednesday were without key defensive players Guy Branston and Graeme Lee and feared before the game that Luton's powerhouse forward Steve Howard, a Wednesday target in the summer, might run riot against their young replacements.

But Richard Wood and Patrick Collins marshalled the backline superbly all afternoon.

Lee Peacock came the closest to scoring for Wednesday but his shot cannoned back off the post.

The Hatters too were unlucky not to break the deadlock. Howard found himself in acres of space just 30 seconds into the second half, but his shot was badly miscued which resulted in an echo of cheering from the 20,000 plus Hillsborough crowd.

Lee Bullen kept out Chris Coyne's towering header from a Luton corner, whilst at the other end Chris Marsden was the creator of a couple of good scoring chances for the Owls.

The 0-0 scoreline ensured the Hatters remained undefeated so far this season, whilst the Owls will be keen to get back under winning ways next Saturday after having picked up just two points from their last possible nine.

Half-time: Owls 0-0 Luton

Chris Turner's most match comments:
"It was an excellent game. I'm always disappointed when we don't win but you have to look at your team and ask: 'Did they play well?' and 'Did they work hard?' The answer to both was 'yes' and that's all you can ask for in your team."

"We're improving all the time. The crowd clapped the team off at the end and showed their approval. The plan was to prevent many crosses from coming into the box. Lee Bullen and Richard Wood did very well against him. Lee has been our most consistent player this season and Richard is showing tremendous potential for a 19-year-old."

"He (Marsden) was outstanding, you saw what he can do for us today. He's hardly trained this week but his willingness to work hard to try to win the game is superb."

AnzOwls' verdict: Luton came to Hillsborough with a 100% record, but were lucky to have left with a point. A good sign of things to come this season with a bit of luck.
