Bees stun Owls with late goals

This Match Report from Soccernet.com:

Brentford came back from the dead to clinch an unlikely point in a thrilling 3-3 draw with fellow play-off hopefuls Sheffield Wednesday. Brentford struck twice in the last nine minutes after looking dead and buried for much of the second half.

Lee Peacock gave the visitors a two-goal cushion with two first-half strikes, the first a 25-yard drive. His second came courtesy of a blunder by Brentford goalkeeper Ademole Bankole, who helped his eight-yard snap-shot into the net. But Martin Allen's side hit back just before the break when Deon Burton turned sweetly to fire home.

Bankole was at fault again for Wednesday's third soon after the restart when he allowed Lee Bullen to power home a header. Brentford clawed their way back when Ryan Peters bundled home in a goalmouth scramble and deep into injury time Stephen Hunt slammed the equaliser when Wednesday failed to clear a right-wing cross.

Half-time: Brentford 1-2 Owls

Lee Peacock's post match comments:
"It is gutting to be 2-0 and 3-1 up in the dying minutes and it float away. It feels like a defeat - it's crushing. The teams around us have either been beaten or drawn so that's an ideal opportunity with need the results going for us and we didn't capitalise."

"We put ourselves in a fantastic position, especially away from home. We had a good start and, although they had chances, we looked the stronger team. Again that last ten minutes has been haunting us all season and we threw it away."

AnzOwls Verdict:
From being 3-1 up with eight minutes left this is a truly dreadful result. How costly will this defensive lapse be at the end of the season?
