Turner chopped after Cherries loss

Owls boss Chris Turner was sacked shortly after watching his side put in a weak performance at home to Bournemouth. The Cherries, having lost three on the trot and having extensive injury worries, left Sheffield with all three points after John Spicer's well taken goal in the 41st minute proved to be the winning goal.

The Owls blew countless chances to score and morale seemed to deteriate into the second half as Bournemouth ran the clock down with a defensive second half effort. The full time whistle blew to a loud chorus of booing by the home faithful, angered by the dire performance they'd had to put up with.

Club Chairman Dave Allen shortly afterwards announced that, reluctantly, he had to part company with Turner.

Wednesday had welcomed back Guy Branston into their defence and Lee Peacock into attack and they actually started the game on the frontfoot. They created some good chances and played some attractive football. But 90 minutes is a long time in football, as they say, and how true it has to be said for this game.

Half-time: Owls 0-1 Bournemouth

Dave Allen's post match comments:
"At the end of the day it's all about results. If you're not getting the results, and clearly we haven't been, then you have to make the decision. Chris is a grown man, he knew what the position was, and he knew we had to win the games against Walsall, Bournemouth and Wrexham. We've drawn one and and lost one. The club has got to go forward, and to go forward we've got to make a change in the management."

"I thought it was necessary to give the manager time - because other manager's haven't had time here. You can't have five managers in two or three years and keep change, change, change. You've got to give them a chance to mould their team."

AnzOwls' verdict: A performance like so many of those seen last season. The Owls started the season well but have lost their way now.
