Owusu & co. star in early show
The Owls continued their fine record away from home with a tight
2-1 victory over Wycombe at the Causeway Stadium. Early goals from
Lloyd Owusu and Alan Quinn set the Owls on their way to their third
win away win on the trot. It put Chris Turner's side back up into
fifth in the table, despite not yet having won at Hillsborough so
far this season.
Lloyd Owusu's run went unnoticed and the former Brentford man headed
home from a corner after just five minutes to open the scoring.
And three minutes later it was 2-0, Owusu again involved. This time
he did brilliantly to hold off his man, swivel and play a perfect
pass to the oncoming Alan Quinn. From there the young Irishman had
no problem in tucking the ball past a stranding Wycombe goalkeeper.
And not for the first time this season Wednesday allowed their opponents
back into the game. Ola Tidman and the Owls defence were kept busy
throughout the first half, and finally let slip just three minutes
before the break. Graeme Lee's backpass header caused mayhem in
the Owls box, and Jermaine McSporran was on hand to roof the ball
into the back of the net.
Half-time: Wycombe 1-2 Owls
The Owls had to battle hard in the second half as the home side
heaped on the pressure. Turner also introduced veteran midfielder
Robbie Mustoe in the 63rd minute. The former Middlesbrough man had
missed the early part of the season with a hamstring strain.
With just nine minutes left Derek Geary made the task in hand that
much harder when his reckless challenge saw him sent off. The full-back
had miscontrolled the ball and then went two-footed in on a Wycombe
player. Turner quickly threw on defender Steven Haslam in an attempt
to strengthen the Owls' defence. It worked, and Wednesday held on
for a narrow victory.

Bad points...
