Owls undone by struggling Stockport
The Owls slumped to their fourth league loss in five games as
struggling Stockport County took a step towards safety in Division
Two. Owls fans can stop looking at the play-off spot that a few
weeks ago seemed possible. Mid-table mediocrity is all that 2003/04
will bring for Wednesday.
Chris Turner dropped Kim Olsen to the bench, and put Adam Proudlock
back upfront. It nearly paid off as the former Wolves man saw his
glancing header cannon back off the bar early on. But it was Lambert's
25th minute screamer that was to prove the difference between two
sides that looked as poor as each other.
The Owls now have eight games left in their season, for which many
players will have to prove their worth if they want contracts next
season. Turner, disappointed for not the first time this month,
has promised changes in personnel over the summer.
The LDV Vans Trophy is to be played at the Millennium Stadium in
Cardiff tomorrow. It will feel like salt being rubbed in the wounds
of most supporters, knowing all too well that Wednesday slipped
up at the final hurdle against Blackpool.
Half-time: Stockport 1-0 Owls

AnzOwls' verdict: The Owls are a team with nothing left
to play for this year. Pride went out of the window a few weeks
ago it seems.
