Kuqi winner in tight Posh game Shefki Kuqi's fourth goal in three games ensured Wednesday left Peterborough with maximum points on Saturday. The big forward, who was called up for international duty with Finland in midweek, grabbed the game's only goal shortly before the break. The Owls had hit the crossbar early on when an Alan Quinn free kick cannoned back off the crossbar. The home side threatened throughout the first period but the Owls backline, with the help of Swedish goalkeeper Ola Tidman, held out. Wednesday had looked more solid not only at the back, but in the midfield too. Paul McLaren's return to the side from suspension made the difference in the middle of the park. Peterborough piled on the pressure in the second half, but the Wednesday defence was too prove too strong on this day. A similar situation last season would've probably seen the Owls cave in. The win ensured Wednesday are still unbeaten in their opening three league games of the season, and are second in the table. Fourth placed Wrexham are the visitors to Hillsborough tomorrow. This report from the BBC Football website: Shefki Kuqi scored his fourth goal of the season to clinch a narrow win at Peterborough and move Sheffield Wednesday into second place in Division Two. The Finnish international was on target just before the break with a towering header after being picked out by Terry Cooke's free-kick. But Wednesday, who saw Alan Quinn rattle the crossbar with a free-kick early on, had to soak up plenty of pressure to claim the points. Striker Andy Clarke was denied by goalkeeper Ola Tidman's outstretched boot and the Swede also did well to keep out shots from Andy Legg and Sagi Burton. But Peterborough's challenge fizzled out when Nigerian full-back Chris Kanu was sent off with the final whistle approaching for a crude lunge at Paul McLaren. Half-time: Peterborough 0-1 Owls Good points...
