Hatters hold Owls at home

Luton Town further frustrated Chris Turner and his Wednesday side as they held the Owls out to a 0-0 draw at Hillsborough on the weekend. The result means the Owls have gone seven games without victory in the league, all the while sliding down the table. They currently lie in 17th place.

The current injury crisis hasn't helped matters on the park. Paul McLaren and Ola Tidman joined the ever growing list of casualties. McLaren will be out until the New Year, and joins five other midfielders in Cooke, Armstrong, Hamshaw, Evans and P.Smith on the sidelines.

Brian Barry-Murphy took McLaren's place in the midfield, as Turner was forced to abandon his usual 3-5-2 formation and switch to 4-3-3, with Michael Reddy playing just behind Owusu and Proudlock. Young French striker Mikael Antoine-Curier made a brief 10 minute home debut and could've, perhaps should've, scored in the dying moments. It was just another case of Wednesday not taking their chances infront of goal.

Even Chairman Dave Allen knows the Owls need someone upfront who can still the ball in the back of the net on a regular basis. Luton keeper Marlon Beresford, a former Wednesday player, was in fine form and made good saves earlier in the game from Adam Proudlock and Lloyd Owusu had kept the home side at bay. Wednesday have a week to prepare for their toughest game of the season next weekend, when they travel to Loftus Road to play league leaders Queens Park Rangers.

Half-time: Owls 0-0 Luton

Chris Turner's most match comments:
"We totally dominated the game. We threw everything at them, created things and got into the 18-yard box, but then it's down to making the right decisions. A couple of times players elected to shoot when they should have squared it to somebody and that was the difference between one point and three."

"The only difference between our League position and where we should be is a goalscorer. It sounds simple but it's very difficult to find somebody who is available on a free transfer and affordable for us. Nearly 91 other clubs are looking for the same thing. But we'll keep looking and we'll find somebody. If we can find the goalscorer we need we'll romp back into the play-off places - and the earlier we can do it the more we can put pressure on the top two spots."

AnzOwls' verdict: Forget the midfield injury crisis - we need a striker! Seven league games without a win now. QPR, Barnsley and Port Vale are our opponents in the coming weeks.
