Match Report

Mariners keep Owls scoreless yet again

Sheffield Wednesday dominated but could not find a way past a resolute Grimsby defence at Hillsborough. Veteran goalkeeper Eric Nixon made an unexpected appearance for the home side when Kevin Pressman was forced out of the action through injury in the 28th minute. Adam Proudlock forced a stunning save from Aidan Davison in the Grimsby goal with half-time approaching, holding on to his stinging drive from the edge of the penalty area.

Sheffield Wednesday boss Chris Turner Nixon was called into action midway through the second half, rolling back the years to deny Grimsby forward Michael Boulding with a fine diving stop. Wednesday defender Graeme Lee came closest to a winner, heading Terry Cooke's corner against the woodwork with time running out.

Half-time: Owls 0-0 Grimsby
