Turner apologies to fans after Mariners defeat

This match report from TeamTalk.com:

Tony Crane scored against former club Sheffield Wednesday to secure a vital 2-0 win for Grimsby. Crane made the Owls pay when he headed home the Mariners' second goal from an Iain Anderson cross. The home side took an early lead when recalled striker Darren Mansaram bundled home a Phil Jevons cross.

Wednesday had striker Guylain Ndumbu sent off just before half-time after he kicked out at Jevons following a rash challenge by the Grimsby forward. After consulting his assistant, referee Phil Dowd showed the Congo international a straight red card.

Ten-man Wednesday showed plenty of spirit after the break but could not find a way past a resolute Grimsby defence led by Crane. It was Jevons who went closest to increasing Grimsby's lead when he headed just over the crossbar from an Isaiah Rankin centre.

Half-time: Grimsby 2-0 Owls

Chris Turner's post-match comments:
"I apologise to the supporters who travelled because they didn't get what they deserve. I feel responsible, which I should do as a manager, but I just wonder whether some of the players do."

" I do know what is required to get this club out of the Second Division and during the summer that is what will happen. But at the moment I just have to endure some performances that just are not worthy. "I'm sure that some of these players who eventually leave the club will blame me, but I can't accept that level of performance and I won't."

" I stated way back in January that players have to earn their next contract. When they play like that they aren't doing themselves justice."

Anzowls verdict: This Wednesday team continues to put in it's Jeckyll & Hyde performances, week in, week out.
