U's send Owls tumbling

The Owls may have proceeding to the next rounds in resptive FA Cup and LDV Vans cup competitions in the last week, but they slipped back into their bad run of league form at Layer Road this weekend. The 3-1 defeat to Colchester United meant Chris Turner's side have now gone 6 games without a league win, and have slipped down to an unacceptable 14th in the division.

The Owls, favourites to take the Division Two title before the season kicked off, have struggled to adapt to life in Division Two. The heat is turned on Turner more each week as his side continues to slide down the table. It wasn't that long ago that Wednesday were a well respected Premier League outfit, and Colchester were a semi-professional outfit. You would not have known by yesterday's result.

Leigh Bromby's 58th minute goal, his first of the season and only his second in some 95 appearances for the club, had made the scores level after the U's had gone in 1-0 up at the break thanks to Scott McGleish's goal after 28 minutes. It was once again the story of Wednesday failing to take their chances when presented with them. Those failures came back to kick them in the arse as Colchester grabbed two goals in the final nine minutes to ensure all three points.

Grant Holt's late header was disallowed for offside, summing up Wednesday's fortunes of late. Next week's visitors to Hillsborough are Luton Town, who lie just two places above the Owls in the table. This will be seen as a must win game for Turner, who will be desperate for side to patch together a decent run of results.

Half-time: Colchester 1-0 Owls

Chris Turner's most match comments:
"They were the only two strikes they had on our goal in the half. But it's all about taking the chances when we were well on top. It was an excellent ball for the first goal. If you put a good ball into the penalty box it is difficult to defend and that's where we lacked when we were attacking."

"At half-time I told them they have to come to places like Colchester, impose ourselves more into the game and stand up against their strengths. To be fair I thought we played very well in the second half and were controlling the game. Grant believes he was well onside because he was running behind the defender on the flick-on but some of these things go for you and some don't. We were a decision away from 2-2 but it's still disappointing."

AnzOwls' verdict: Another unacceptable league result. Turner needs to get it sorted, and quick.
