Match Report

Struggling Town down Owls

A struggling Chesterfield Town outfit put further pressure on Chris Turner after he watched his side collapse to an embarrasing 3-1 local derby defeat away from home. The Owls are just seven points away from a play-off spot, but this result has done nothing to suggest they are capable of doing that this season.

The result has angered many Owls fans, who in turn will put pressure on the board in the wake of next week's AGM meeting. Former Chelsea chairman Ken Bates has shown interest in the club of late, many supporters will be pushing for him to put his money where his mouth is.

The performance on the field was no more than average. Sloppy defending cost the Owls dearly, despite having much of the first half possession. Guylain Ndumbu-Nsungu's 8th goal of the season was the only point cheering about. Alan Quinn's last minute red card could see him miss five league games. Just what the Owls could do without in their current injury crisis.

Half-time: Chesterfield 1-0 Owls

Chris Turner's most match comments: "It was absolutely ridiculous and certain players have to look at themselves and ask if they're doing the right thing. I said to the boys who have been playing Premiership and First Division football that this is what life is all about in the Second Division. We didn't have enough battlers, enough quality or players who could handle the physical presence. I look around at the players and some of the performances were well below par and well below what is required to win a game."
