Owls miss chance to win at Ashton

The Owls dropped more points as they could only manage a 1-1 draw at Bristol City. A 25th minute opener from Adam Proudlock, his first league goal since signing permanently for the club, had sent Wednesday on their way. But a lack of instinct infront of goal was their undoing. Lloyd Owusu had a golden chance to make it 2-0 later in the first half but his effort, which should have hit the back of the net, was instead cleared off the line.

Lee Peacock found himself unmarked in the penalty box in the 70th minute, and his header beat David Lucas' out stretched arm. The 1-1 scoreline was Wednesday's third draw in four league games. The Owls slip down to 10th in the table, but are only three points away from 2nd place.

This report from Soccernet.com:

Lee Peacock's 10th goal of the season salvaged a point for Bristol City in a 1-1 draw with fellow Second Division promotion favourites. Peacock rose unmarked to head home Craig Woodman's left-wing cross in the second half, having hit a post with a first-half volley.

Wednesday had gone in front midway through the first half when Michael Reddy's run and low cross set up Adam Proudlock to fire home from 10 yards. City's Matthew Hill cleared off the line from Lloyd Owusu but the home side created most of the chances in a tense contest. Owusu might have won the game for Wednesday late on but his close-range header was straight at goalkeeper Steve Phillips

Half-time: Bristol C 0-1 Owls

Chris Turner's most match comments:
"We were on the edge of our seats at times, particularly when Bristol brought on a couple of quick lads to attack us in the closing stages. But we defended well under a lot of pressure and going forward there were several occasions when we caused them problems."

AnzOwls' verdict:
Predictable result following a pretty average couple of weeks. Don't read too much into the table, we're 3 points off being 2nd place in the league. We've also only lost once in our last 8 games.
