Match Report

Seagulls top off bad week for Owls

It's been a bad week for Chris Turner and his Wednesday side. A last minute defeat at Bournemouth in midweek had ended their proud 100% away record, but Owls fans who made their second trip to the south coast in a week will have been left angered at the lacklustre performance put out by their side.

A 2-0 defeat to Brighton at The Withdean Stadium left Turner angry with a number of his players, whom he later described as "stealing their living" for their dire efforts on the field. The result, but more importantly the performance, has left questions over whether or not the Owls are really deserving of getting out of this division.

An 8th minute strike from Leon Knight was poetic justice for the former Chelsea youngster. He spent last season on loan at Hillsborough, but felt he was never given a fair go. His strike from just inside the penalty box was Knight's revenge on Turner.

Chris McPhee's 83rd minute goal sealed the win for Brighton, whilst the visitors had never really looked like winning this one. An Adam Proudlock miss from close range left the former Wolves man still looking for a first Wednesday goal this season since signing.

Half-time: Brighton 1-0 Owls

Chris Turner's most match comments:

"I'm ashamed of both performances and the supporters deserve more for what they're paying. When I see the players go out like that I feel as though some of them are stealing a living. That's not good enough."

"I come out of here thinking that, on today's performance, we haven't got a team that is capable of rolling its sleeves up for 46 games a season. Those decisions will be taken in due course regarding where we move onto. It could be the kick up the backside everyone needs and it could be the eye opener I need as a manager. Actions speak louder than words and there will certainly be actions in the next seven days."

Good points...
Chris Turner's strong post match reaction to a poor effort.

Bad points...
The Owls put in their second successive unacceptable performance.
The Owls attack fails to hit the back of the net for the second time in a row.
Chris Turner's proud away record is in tatters - with two defeats in four days.
Leon Knight - for trying to create a slanging match with Turner.
