Seasiders victorious as Owls fail at home again

Wednesday's frustrations continued yesterday as their poor home for this season continued with a disappointing 1-0 defeat by Blackpool. A 79th minute goal by Scott Taylor, a rare attack for the visitors, was enough to seal all three points for the Seasiders.

The Owls had dominated proceedings but a mixture of bad luck and average finishing in front of goal meant Chris Turner's side have picked up just three points from their last five league games.

David Lucas, making his final loan appearance before returning to Preston North End, saved John Murphy's first half penalty to keep the Owls in the game. Robbie Mustoe, Paul McLaren and Lloyd Owusu were all guilty of sqwandering second half goal scoring opportunities.

Wednesday drop another place in the table down to 11th, although a quick look at the standings reveals the league as a whole is still a pretty close affair. Turner's men now enjoy a break from their league worries with two successive cup games. Next weekend the Owls take on non-league Salisbury City in the FA Cup 1st Round at Hillsborough. Three days later Barnsley are the visitors for an LDV Vans Trophy 2nd Round clash between the two Yorkshire sides.

Half-time: Owls 0-0 Blackpool

Chris Turner's most match comments: "Sometimes you feel the world's against you at home. We cannot seem to get that break in front of goal. Nobody can go away from the game today thinking we got what we deserved. If you're beaten by the better side on the day, as we were against Plymouth, you have to hold up your hands. Today we deserved to have won the game but something is going against us at home."

"I can't ask any more of them in terms of creating chances and playing good football - they got the ball down, passed it well, opened them up and created many opportunities. Especially in the second half it's probably the best we've passed and most territorial possession we've had at home for a long time."

" I'm dejected tonight - I can't believe we've come away from the game with nothing. But I will pick myself up by Monday and we'll work very hard this week to make sure we get the right result in the FA Cup. If we keeping playing like that, we'll be OK."

AnzOwls' verdict: Another disappointing result, another poor performance at home. No-one said it would be easy, but Owls fans demand success at this level. The pressure is quickly building on Turner.
